Brad Sucks to Continue Giving it Away for Free in Spring 2007

Following up on the success of his freely distributed 2003 album I Don't Know What I'm Doing, one-man-band Brad Sucks announces he will continue giving his next album and its complete audio source away for free when it's released in Spring 2007.

(Billboard Publicity Wire) November 1, 2006 -- Brad from the eponymously named Brad Sucks announced today that he's begun final work on the follow-up to his 2003 album I Don't Know What I'm Doing with producer Rob Cosh.

Like his previous effort, the 12-track LP will be given away for free on his website (www.bradsucks.net) while simultaneously offering CDs and digital downloads on services such as iTunes, Napster, eMusic and Rhapsody.

I thought it was silly to be a scaredy-cat about file-sharing. Music promotion is hard as hell and without a budget you have to do whatever you can to get people to listen to the music and hopefully come back for more.
"Giving it away worked great for me the last time, so I don't see why I'd change that," said Brad.

Brad started giving away his songs in 2001 and was one of the first artists to fully embrace the Internet as a means of distribution and promotion. An early adopter of digital music, blogging, file-sharing, home-recording and podcasting, he has used technology to create and distribute his art inexpensively without any outside help or interference.

In late 2003 Brad put his self-written, recorded and produced album I Don't Know What I'm Doing online for free download and allowed people to copy, share and re-distribute it. Going a step further, he also released the complete audio source to the album – fans responded by creating hundreds of remixes and spreading his music all over the world.

Hundreds of thousands of downloads later, Brad had made enough money from fan donations, digital sales and licensing his music to companies such as VH1 and Renault (to be included in the stock mp3 player of the 2005 Mégane) to professionally manufacture the album and put together a live band.

"It was an act of desperation before," says Brad of his decision to give away his music. "I thought it was silly to be a scaredy-cat about file-sharing. Music promotion is hard as hell and without a budget you have to do whatever you can to get people to listen to the music and hopefully come back for more."

The new as-yet-untitled album is schedule for an April 2007 release. The complete audio source will again be released. Brad has not made final plans about whether a label will be involved or not.
