Opera Diva Teams Up with Rock Icon

Opera finally meets Rock/Pop? In a most unusual collaboration of musical styles two distinct artists come together to create an incredible collection of musical diversity.

Sherman Oaks, CA (Billboard Publicity Wire) May 3, 2007 -- With the help and guidance that only a seasoned musician can give, world renowned pianist Mike Garson, who has worked with such rock legends as David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Gwen Stefani, Nine Inch Nails and many others, has produced an elegant collection of musical theater and opera arias with opera singer Jessica Tivens. One would think that with such a history in Rock and Jazz that turning to musical theater and opera would be a stretch for Garson, but he takes it all in stride, very much as his own illustrious career has, having spanned quite a few different musical genres itself.

Garson discovered Tivens when he was looking for a vocalist to sing a track on one of his albums a few years back and their friendship has blossomed into a cherished association that has led to concerts in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in and around the Los Angeles area and as far away as Iceland.

With over 4,000 compositions to his credit from classical to jazz; and from rock to fusion; Garson's musical style is evident in this CD, performing on five of the tracks. Interestingly enough, the track Magic Spell is the title song to a contemporary opera that Tivens and Garson currently have under development.

Ms. Tivens attended The Juilliard School, where she studied opera. She has also trained with opera greats Marilyn Horne, Christa Ludwig and Licia Albanese. Tivens cites the reason for this musical adventure, as a way to show off her "Unlimited" vocal abilities, and Garson thought that was the perfect title for this project.
