NoiseTrade Unveils Fan-Friendly Music Service

Enterprising company makes music listeners part of the promotion team.

Nashville, TN (Billboard Publicity Wire) July 15, 2008 -- NoiseTrade.com quietly launched their Drm-free music distribution service earlier this month with over two dozen like-minded musicians, including Sixpence None The Richer and Sandra McCracken, eager to participate in the revolutionary new approach. In the two short weeks since the service debuted, over 20,000 full albums have been either purchased or promoted by fans.

With NoiseTrade.com, artists can freely distribute their music online, via NoiseTrade.com's embeddable widget, where fans can sample then choose to tell three friends or pay any amount in exchange for any immediate download. When they're done, fans can automatically embed the artist's widget onto their own website, blog, or favorite social networking site.

Launching NoiseTrade.com is a dream come true for us. Giving music away in this fashion has been a distinct turning point in my career, so I'm thrilled to deliver a system for artists enabling them to benefit from making meaningful connections with their current fans while helping find their future fans.
Founded by musician Derek Webb, artist manager David McCollum, industry veteran Mark Nicholas, and designer Brannon McAllister, NoiseTrade.com is Webb's brainchild, who in 2006 was among the first commercially successful artists to offer a full album for free to fans in exchange for information (name, email address and postal code). In the three months that followed, Webb gave away over 80,000 full downloads and saw his touring fan base grow exponentially with both album and merchandise sales spiking. It was the massive success of this experiment that inspired Webb, with the help of a few trusted friends, to start NoiseTrade.com.

"Launching NoiseTrade.com is a dream come true for us. Giving music away in this fashion has been a distinct turning point in my career, so I'm thrilled to deliver a system for artists enabling them to benefit from making meaningful connections with their current fans while helping find their future fans." Webb, both as a member of Caedmon's Call and as a solo artist, has sold nearly 1 million records over the span of his over 15-year career.
