The Goal and Olympic Dream Realized -- Stars and Athletes, Jason Regier and Chance Sumner, Visioned Being in Olympics
The dream of being in a feature length award winning film was easy, easier than making it to the final round of the American Gold Medal Paralympic Quad Rugby team. But they made it! Jason Regier and Chance Sumner, featured athletes in the multi-award winning movie "The Goal", didn't know how true the script was when it was said, "Next time (next Olympics), I'll be taking your spot".
Now with the prophecy fulfilled, "The Goal" is receiving extended distribution and renewed interest for the upcoming Beijing Olympic games.
Denver, CO (Billboard Publicity Wire) February 13, 2008 -- The award-winning feature film, "The Goal," (Film It Productions) is expanding it's distribution through Maverick Entertainment and is now starting to gain recognition throughout the world. The Colorado made independent family film gained distribution in several countries including Taiwan, South Africa, Australia. China is hosting this year's Olympics and all eyes are trained on athletes, turned movie stars, turned Olympians.
"The Goal" chronicles the lives of two athletes who are on an adrenaline track, one to the Olympics and the other to the world of Pro Soccer. Steve and Jason cross paths while rebuilding their lives following severe accidents. They find hope through the sport of Quad Rugby.
Darla Rae, the film's writer, director, and executive producer, was inspired to create "The Goal" when a friend's son was injured. She watched the determination and perseverance it takes to reach one's goal.
"I remember shooting the scene where the Steve character finds out he has been selected to the US Paralympic training team on the way to the Olympics. And even as the words were spoken on set that day, by Jason Regier playing Jason Roberts, 'In four years I'm taking your place,' referring to the Olympic team. At that moment I remember saying 'This could be self fulfilling prophecy,'" said Rae.
As it turns out that's exactly what happened. Jason Regier and Chance Sumner both who appear in The Goal will be fulfilling that dream as members of the United States Wheelchair Rugby Team come this fall in Beijing.
"I am so elated and proud for them. What an honor to represent your country in such an amazing life event," said Rae.
"The Goal" also received four "doves" from The Dove Foundation. The Dove Foundation was created to identify movies that are family friendly.
